Alliance For The Great Lakes Samples Trash in Lake Michigan

Researchers from the Alliance for the Great Lakes are joining swimmers as they swim across Lake Michigan this weekend, sampling the water and collecting floating trash.

Olga Lyandres, staff scientist for the Alliance says they're studying how plastic trash in particular, is affecting the ecosystem.

Swimmers will be going from Chicago across the Lake to Michiana, Michigan in southern Berrien County.

Other studies will begin later this summer in other parts of Lake Michigan and in Lake Ontario.
