In Robinson Township, crews will begin construction on the M-231 bridge between 128th at 120th Avenues starting tomorrow. Construction will continue until early June and close Rich Street. Traffic will be detoured off 128th or 120th, as well as Lake Michigan Drive.
John Richard is Communications Representative for M-DOT's Grand Region and says the bridge is expected to re-open by 2015.
"The new 7-mile route has M-231 joining I-96 as well as M-104 up in Nunica. The route also goes south toward M-45 (Lake Michigan Drive). It's expected to open to traffic at the end of 2015 or early 2016."
Richard says the bridge needed work for heavy amounts of traffic.
"We anticipate this route will be about 20,000 cars a day. Last week they started setting beams and we put a couple pictures up on our Twitter Account of a few construction workers sitting on those beams. It gives you a good idea of just how huge those beams are."
Work is weather dependent. Be on the lookout for crews directing traffic.
