Builder Breaks Ground On Project To Benefit Degage Ministries

A Grand Rapids area builder is giving proceeds of a home now under construction to benefit Degage Ministries, saying a church sermon inspired him.

Ken Ver Woert of Ver Woert Construction joined with Degage's Executive Director Marge Palmerlee today at the site in the 4500 block of Gordonshire NW, in Walker near the corner of Richmond and Wilson. Ground was broken and Van Woert hopes to complete the build by mid-February.

Ver Woert said subcontractors are giving him breaks on their elements of the project. That means the initial gift to Degage he'd estimated at $10,000 should wind up presenting $45,000 to the ministry when the property sells. "It was laid upon my heart to build a home and donate the proceeds to Dégagé." Palmerlee said she believes this is the first time any Heartside organization has benefited in this fashion.
