A 24-year-old Coopersville teacher sues her teachers union.
Miriam Chanski's suit against the MEA is one of eight to hit the union at the same time, all filed on behalf of teachers by the Mackinac Center, a conservative think tank which has been particularly critical of the big teacher union seeming to buck Michigan's new Right To Work law.
The law says people can decide opt out of their unions, but the MEA decided that members would be allowed to leave only in August.
Chanski tells WOOD TV that, even though she notified the MEA of her decision in May, the union was never up-front with her about this window.
