Cornerstone University hosts a conference of the Christian Community Development Association this weekend.
Event chair Rudy Carrasco called it a gathering of people involved in community outreach ministry.
"The philosophy is called Christian community development, and it's a way to not only transform communities, but develop and transform people, and there's a focus on low-income and urban areas."
He said he expects as many as 600 people, maybe more. Interested people can still sign up.
One of the presentations deals with the concept of toxic charity.
"Oftentimes, the charity that we as Christians do does not accomplish the help that we seek, and, in fact, can often hurt people. There are better ways we can help our neighbors."
