Detroit FBI Gets a new SAC

A special agent with a background in counterterrorism has been named as special agent in charge of the FBI's Detroit division.

The appointment of Paul M. Abbate was announced Monday by the FBI.

Abbate most recently served as special agent in charge of the Counterterrorism Division in the Washington Field Office, where he oversaw the Joint Terrorism Task Force and all FBI counterterrorism personnel, investigations and operations in the National Capital Region.

Abbate began his career as a special agent in 1996. He's worked in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as New York, New Jersey and Los Angeles.

He's taking the post after Robert Foley in August announced plans to step down after a year on the job.
