Erickson Named N. Michigan University President

Fritz Erickson has been named president of Northern Michigan University in Marquette.

The university's board of trustees voted Tuesday to hire Erickson, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Ferris State University in Big Rapids.

He succeeds David Haynes, who is returning to the Northern Michigan faculty in July.

Erickson will be Northern Michigan's 15th president. He previously served as dean of the College of Professional and Graduate Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

He also has been dean and professor in the College of Education and Human Development at Eastern Washington University, and a professor and chairman of the education department at Michigan Technological University.
