GR City Commission Approves Federal Financing for Work at Old Morton House

Grand Rapids City Commissioners have approved federal funds for renovations at the former Morton House apartment building (pictured) at Monroe Center and Ionia.

WOOD TV reports a no-interest loan program from the Environmental Protection Agency will finance asbestos removal.

That work is estimated to cost $400,000.

The building, now called 55 Ionia, is undergoing renovations to create at least 100 market-rate apartments, first-floor retail space, and possibly office space.
