Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell's annual "State of the City" address was offered today at the DeVos Place Convention Center.
Heartwell had focal points of Diversity, Talent, Transformation and the Environmental aspects of the community in his 14 page address, available here via the city's website. The Mayor presented Bing Goei as the Champion of Diversity award during his speech.
Heartwell credited the various programs in the GRPS, Kendall College of Art and Design and a new partnership with Grand Valley State University to help the city raise its status in talent improvement. He added that a stubborn part of the Transformation process, better roads and sidewalks could be taken up this spring when an income tax extension is likely to see a vote.
Enviromental considerations include the Grand Rapids Whitewater project and accomodating bicycles in the Vital Streets program.
