GR Police and Fire Play Wounded Vets In Softball

Grand Rapids Police and Firefighters are playing a special softball game Wednesday, a fundraiser for Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital and VETSports.

VETSports is a non-profit organization that helps veterans overcome their injuries through the power of adaptive sports and rehabilitation programs. Grand Rapids Police and Firefighters will take on the VETSports National Wounded Warrior Team.

By participating in sports, wounded veterans not only have a better chance at a faster recovery, but it can also bring a sense of purpose back to their lives that is often lost after an injury. Also during Wednesday’s festivities, the Grand Rapids Police Department will be unveiling its new police vehicle, the Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle. These new cruisers will be replacing current fleet vehicles over the next three to four years.

The 9-inning softball game will be played at Fifth Third Ballpark and starts at 6:00 pm.
