GR Says Scammers Appear to be Targeting Utility Customers

The City of Grand Rapids says scammers appear to be posing as city workers and trying to steal money from residents.

In one case, a phone call was reported in which the caller encouraged a water service customer to pay a water bill over the phone with a prepaid VISA or Green Dot card, in order to avoid having water shut off.

The city says it does not require customers to pay over the phone, and it encourages utility customers not to respond to these types of calls.
