GR Violent Crime Down During First Half of 2013

The Grand Rapids Police Department says violent crime is down for the first half of 2013, but there are a few key items to note in that overall drop.

There's been a 12.6% drop in major crime, like assault, robbery, and burglary.

But even though overall violent crime has also fallen, by 16.3%, there have been increases in the numbers of rapes and murders.

Furthermore, Grand Rapids police chief Kevin Belk told WOOD TV it's been challenging to bring down the number of young people involved in violent crime.
