Griffins Raise Championship Banner, Express Optimism for New Season

Grand Rapids Griffins staffers say having a Calder Cup championship has had an even greater effect on operations than they expected.

The team's vice president of business operations told WOOD TV Friday's home opener at Van Andel Arena sold out the fastest he's seen in the last 10 years.  At that home opener, the team hoisted its Calder Cup championship banner to the arena rafters.  The Milwaukee Admirals bested the Griffins, 3-2.

Data also shows overall sales for season tickets are up, by more than $215,000 so far this year.

The number of corporate sponsors is up as well, and staffers expect more.
