Monday, developers of the first of several new hotel properties planned near downtown Grand Rapids will break ground on a five-story, 142 room Hampton Inn and Suites hotel.
Dave Levitt, Third Coast Development Partner tells WOOD Radio the hotel will be in the MidTowne Village on Michigan Street two blocks east of College and when finished should have as much impact on east end of the Medical Mile as the Women's Health Centre next door.
"This will be as much of an iconic structure as the Women's Health Center. You'll see it for a distance and it will bring more development and more opportunity to the neighborhood."
Grand Rapids-based Integrated Architecture is designing the project, and Grand Rapids-based Pioneer Construction is constructing it.
"This hotel will offer a product that is currently missing from our downtown hotel offering," said Max Benedict, principal, Third Coast Development. "It will offer the closest rooms to the hospital out of any existing hotel and will continue to bring development further east on Michigan Street."
The hotel will feature an indoor pool and fitness center, as well as offer free Internet access and a complimentary hot breakfast.
Third Coast Development believes the property will "become instantly beneficial to the growing Mid Towne portion of Michigan Street,"
