Not everyone in the Ionia Street area of downtown Grand Rapids will be there for the party today.
Grand Rapids Police will have a Special Events team in the neighborhood, ready to support "Irish on Ionia" security in the expanded site plan for this fourth annual event. Ralph Mason in Public Information with the GRPD told WOOD Radio taxpayers shouldn't be troubled by this news. "There's a cost involved whenever we have police officers working these events." Mason said the scope of these services include traffic control for Van Andel arena crowds or summertime festivals on the Calder Plaza or other areas of town.
In general, those coming for "Kegs and Eggs" or any other facet of the Irish Music, beer or other fun will be reminded to keep perspective. "I want people to have a good time, but be very responsible because there's a lot of people out there." Organizers of "Irish on Ionia" hope to bring in 20,000 for the largest St. Patrick's Day period party in the state.
