GRPS Hosting 21st Annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot

The Grand Rapids Public Schools district hosts a 5K run and walk Thursday morning in downtown Grand Rapids, raising money for athletics programs.

GRPS Executive Director of Athletics Kurt Johnson told WOOD Radio the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot helps the district avoid having pay-to-play programs.

"We're trying to bring in at least about $50,000 as a result of this year's run."

For $30, runners can register on-site at Van Andel Arena, starting at 6:30 Thursday morning until the race's start at 8.

This is the second year that the race's finish line is on the floor of the Van Andel Arena.  Organizers have also put the finish line for the kids' shorter Mini-Trot there, as well.  That starts at 8:40.
