Hope College Names Musical Arts Center

Hope College in Holland has announced it will name its new $35 million musical arts center in honor of local civic leader and alumnus Jack H. Miller.

The 64,000-square-foot center will include an 800-seat concert hall, a recital hall with about 125 seats, classrooms, practice rooms, faculty studios and offices.

Miller lives in Grand Haven and Naples, Fla. He is a 1954 Hope graduate. He led the Howard Miller Co. for 48 years until he retired in 2002.  His father founded the company in 1926.

The Miller family's involvement with Hope spans more than 90 years.

The center will replace Nykerk Hall of Music, which was built in 1956 when Hope's enrollment was 1,100. Enrollment is now more than 3,300.

Groundbreaking is expected in October with completion in fall 2015.
