Israel's Consul General to the midwestern states visited Grand Rapids this week.
Roey Gilad told WOOD Radio he took up an invitation from the city's Jewish community. He spoke about the Governor's recent trade trip to Israel.
"Since then, the relationship between Israel and Michigan is really booming. I would like for Grand Rapids to be a part of it."
Gilad escorted the Governor around Israel during that trip, which he said led to a cooperation on strengthening cyber-security.
Israel sent a delegation to Michigan's conference on the subject in Novi two weeks ago. A delegation from Michigan's business community heads to Israel in January.
Gilad said the two governments are also working on a bilateral agreement to support industrial research and development.
"There would be a special fund that would be created in order to finance joint research in the field of industry. So this would be one agreement we are working on."
He said that agreement might be signed as soon as in a few weeks.
