Less Assistance in the Federal Food Stamp Program Begins Today

Almost two million Michigan residents will see less benefit from food stamps effective today.

What is now called SNAP, is losing its Recession era add on that gave as much as an extra $36 each month for a family of four.

Spokesman David Akerly at Michigan's DHS says about half of people on food stamps in Michigan do have some sort of regular income.

He says, if you are in the SNAP program, you should call the day before your Bridge Card "loads" to find out what the new balance will be: 1-888 678-8914.
