Man Faces Federal Charges Related to Stolen MSP Rifle

A man has been charged in federal court for having a rifle stolen from an off-duty State Police sergeant's truck, according to WOOD TV.

Todd Simmons faces a count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He was charged in federal court in Grand Rapids.

Last August, someone broke into a truck at the Grandville Holiday Inn Express and stole the sergeant's badge, an M-16 rifle, and some personal items.  The state police say the gun and badge were not visible from outside the truck and there was no way for the thief to know the vehicle belonged to a peace officer.
