Michigan Works! Offices in Kent and Allegan Counties announced a new initiative to hire for 75 positions within their agency. The plan comes after management developed a three-year strategy that's aimed at creating a more efficient workforce system- one that identifies the employer as their primary customer.
Jane Kreha is Marketing and Communications Manager at Michigan Works! and says some of the new positions to be filled include a Grants & Resource Developer, Marketing Research Analyst, Career Coaches and Talent Development Specialists.
"These are positions that exist through countracting. We are also looking for some administrative positions, but the majority of these people will be working in the service center with job seekers."
The job openings will save nearly $1 million due to a reduction in duplicated staff positions, as well as overhead costs. Kreha says they will have greater flexibility in program design and funding, along with more consistent service delivery.
"We are doing this at a tremendous cost savings. We've already brought the business services in-house, and have seen a lot of positive reactions."
