Police Arrest Suspect in GR Sexual Assault

Police arrested a suspect Friday accused of home invasion and sexual assault.

Grand Rapids Police responded to a report of sexual assault on the 500 block of 7th Street NW on New Year's Day.

When they arrived Police were directed that the suspect had fled toward Broadway Ave, but officers could not locate the suspect after K-9 tracking.

The victim indicated to the Family Service Team that she was asleep in an apartment just before 9:00 a.m. when she was awakened by the suspect assaulting her in her bedroom.

The victim told police she followed the suspect down to the lobby of the apartment building where she called police, but she denied she knew him.

Jose Guadalupe Suarez-Cruz was apprehended via a search warrant in a home on the 1500 block of Colorado Ave., SE.

Suarez-Cruz was charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct-First Degree and Home Invasion-First Degree, was arraigned and held on a $250,000 cash bond.
