Pro Medicaid Expansion Group Counts New Beneficiaries

All of Michigan's 83 counties would be directly impacted by an expansion of Medicaid in the state, according to federal health insurance data.

The data compiled by the pro-Medicaid expansion and reform group Reform Medicaid shows, not surprisingly, the counties most affected by an expansion would be those with the largest populations. Wayne would have 119,993 people eligible for Medicaid were it expanded under the federal Affordable Care Act. Oakland would have 42,547, Macomb - 35,373, Kent - 29,461, Genesee - 18,422, Washtenaw - 13,618, Ingham - 13,591, and Kalamazoo - 12,539.

Gongwer News service reports, among the rest of the state's 83 counties, all charted numbers less than 10,000, and 19 counties would see fewer than 1,000 individuals affected

The state Senate is currently examining whether to expand Medicaid in Michigan.
