Red Cross Opens Shelters in West MI due to Power Outages

Many across the state and West Michigan are without power as a result of severe storms Sunday.

The Red Cross of West Michigan is working to open shelters throughout the region as power is not expected to be fully restored for several days.

Roger Morgenstern, of Consumers energy told Justin Barclay Monday morning, about 35 additional crews have been brought in state to help restore power.

Morgenstern said all power is expected to be fully restored by late Friday.

The combination of loss of power and cold weather have left many looking for a warm and safe place to stay.

In addition to the following locations The Red Cross is in communication with emergency management for additional necessary shelters.

Calhoun County

Anyone seeking shelter is encouraged to bring the following:

-Appropriate Bedding, Blankets, Pillows

-Prescription medications

-Personal Hygiene items

-Change of Clothes

-Any necessary items for infants or the elderly.

Residents needing assistance are encouraged to call 211.
