Reports in Washington say that Michigan congressman Dave Camp is considering a possible run for the US Senate next year.
Incumbent Democrat Carl Levin has announced that he will not be running for reelection.
Camp, a Republican from Midland, told the publication Politco that he has already met with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell about the race, saying "I have talked to McConnell...I'm looking at it."
The 60-year old Camp is chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means committee. However, committee term limits require him to step down from that post in 2014.
