State Lawmakers Revisit Ban on Ticket Scalping

A legislative committee in Lansing Wednesday approved and sent to the full House a proposal to repeal Michigan's ban on ticket scalping.

The bill specifically repeals the state provision that prohibits people from reselling any sort of entertainment ticket for a larger amount than the face value.

Supporters of the repeal effort say "approved" third party "resale" websites working in partnership with certain venues already sell for increased prices, so individuals should have that right as well.

The bill allows the "average person" to sell a ticket for higher than face value even though they do not have a partnership agreement with the venue.
