A Grand Rapids woman employed by the Department of Human Services has been charged with welfare fraud.
Ciara Selden-Ruffin has been charged with welfare fraud of $500 and welfare fraud - failure to inform $500 or more..
WOOD TV reports during a hearing to determine probable cause in the case, an officer testified that when Selden-Ruffin applied for benefits through the Kent County DHS in July 2012, she failed to report unearned income that consisted of checks written to her by family members. She also never reported third-party payments toward dependent care costs that were used to budget how much she would receive in food assistance.
It appears Selden-Ruffin is also the daughter of the woman in charge of children's welfare in Kent County, Savator Selden-Johnson.
