US-131 Work Requires Short Term Shutdown Sunday Morning

North of downtown, US-131 has been seeing months of work.  Sunday morning, the freeway will close near 76th for a predawn project that will take mere minutes.

MDOT spokesman John Richard told WOOD Radio why it's necessary. "They're going to take Comcast aerial cable and string it across the road so they're going to shut it down for a little bit. MSP will be on hand for traffic assistance."

Richard said they expect light traffic at the time and motorists could opt for Eastern or Kalamazoo, but they're also welcome to wait the work out. "Either way, it's going to be a real short term closure while they pull those cables across the road."

North of downtown, Richard said a weave/merge lane project on US-131 should be done by October 3rd.
