Grand Rapids area commuters who travel southbound US-131 and westbound I-196 will test their strategic skills for a couple of weeks.
The ramp connecting US-131 to westbound I-196 closes Saturday morning at 7 a.m. and MDOT said the work will take two weeks. Their recommended detour is to use Market Street, returning to US-131's northbound lanes and crossing traffic to the westbound I-196 ramp. Drivers can expect significant delays in that northern stretch of the S-curve until the ramp connecting the freeways re-opens. Transportation officials added their maintenance schedule is weather dependent.
