Victims Identified in Double Fatal South of Douglas

Two people died along the southbound lanes of I-196 Thursday night.

The wreck started as a chain of events on a road that had been slickened by the "mixed precipitation" that had resulted in a significant snow accumulation 12 hours earlier.

Michigan State Police say that that one car had lost control land slid onto the guardrail around eight p.m.  After a second man stopped to help, a third car went out of control and smashed into them and their cars.

Troopers identify the dead men as Jared Kavinsky, 21, from Hartland, WI, and Terrence Noone, 62, from Chicago.  The driver of the car that hit them is a West Michigan man,  Joesph Williard, 26, of Comstock Park.

Williard was airlifted to a hospital and is reported Friday morning with serious injuries.
