VIDEO: Remembering Rick Beckett...Five Years Later.

(Rick Beckett in studio with legendary WOOD Radio morning host Bruce Grant)

Five years ago today, we lost a very special member of our WOOD Radio on-air team. For those of us who were fortunate enough to work with Rick Beckett, we all carry fond memories of him. He was a rare man, and without question was a giant in our business. Rick was a unique and authentic personality who lit up a room and both on mic and off, told stories better on the air than anyone else I've known.

After much behind-the-scenes discussion, negotioation and planning, WOOD Radio launched the Rick and Scott Show (with Rick Beckett and co-host Scott Winters) in early 2003, and quite honestly many people thought we were crazy to put Beckett and Winters on WOOD Radio. After all, this was the same guy who did "Super Hooters Wednesday" on the Q-Morning Zoo. Man, did he prove them all wrong. Within one year, the show was #1 in it's time period, and it went on to propel the station to record high ratings for several consecutive years.

Today, we mark five years to the day that Rick passed away. The hallways just outside our studios on the 9th floor of 77 Monroe Center are still filled with memories of "King RB". And if you listen carefully, you can still hear him whisper, "The World's Gone Crazy".

Thank you for a lifetime of great memories Rick. We will never, ever  forget you.

Phil Tower Program Director, WOOD Radio.
